New Real-time Dynamic Monitoring for Echo® Liquid Handlers Enables Expanded Fluid Types and Applications
03 Sep 2010: Surfactants and proteins are key components in biological assays, yet historically they have been difficult to dispense with high-speed tip- or nozzle-based liquid handling instrumentation. This poster explains exciting new developments for Labcyte Echo liquid handlers that provide real-time fluid monitoring to ensure precise and accurate dispensing for a wide range of fluid types and applications.

Rapid His-Tag Purification of Recombinant Proteins Using Dionex ProPac IMAC Columns
01 Sep 2010: This application note demonstrates that the Dionex ProPac IMAC column can be used to successfully and rapidly purify His-Tagged recombinant proteins from cell-free extracts harvested from up to 1 L of E. coli fermentation cultures. Purification time may be reduced further through the application of a more concentrated sample with a smaller sample volume.

Thiol Coupling: An Alternative Protein Immobilization Strategy on the Corning® Epic® System
10 Aug 2010: This application demonstrates that the Corning® Epic® System enables label-free direct biochemical assay for small molecules and protein-protein binding to an immobilized target. This method offers an alternative approach to investigate difficult protein targets, including those with low pI values, for label-free biochemical binding assays.

Microplate-Based Endotoxin Testing in GLP/GMP Environments with the VersaMax™ Absorbance Microplate Reader and Pyrochrome® Assay
07 Jun 2010: This application note describes a typical set-up for a standard curve in the Pyrochrome® Assay. The Pyrochrome® Assay together with the VersaMax Microplate Reader offers a sensitive and specific method for detecting endotoxin contamination in the production process of the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.

LpxC RapidFire® Screening Analysis
03 Jun 2010: LpxC represents an attractive target for therapeutics. This application note presents a RapidFire high‐throughput mass spec method for both the gram positive and the gram negative bacteria LpxC enzyme. This method screens the LpxC catalyzed reaction using the native reaction substrate, resulting in significant number of hits for client lead discovery programs.

High Resolution LC/MS Analysis in Peptide Mapping Using Kinetex™ HPLC Columns
03 Jun 2010: Good resolution of closely related peptides is critical for identifying post-translational modifications in biopharmaceutical research. This application note demonstrates improved peptide resolution for better identification and quantitation of low-level and post-translationally modified peptides. Decreased chromatographic run times are also presented.

High Throughput Clostridium difficile DNA Isolation
19 May 2010: Clostridium difficile bacteria are the major cause of nosocomial antibiotic-associated diarrhea and pseudo-membraneous colitis. In this application note a PCR assay was used to detect toxin genes tdcA and tdcB, because these Clostridium difficile strains have been described to cause most of the serious diseases. This nucleic acid based method could displace the enzyme linked method, because it is more reliable, faster and more sensitive.

DNA Measurements using the TrayCell
17 May 2010: This application note demonstrates the TrayCell as a useful tool for measuring the absorbance of samples where there is limited sample available or the sample needs to be recovered after measurement without dilution. Concentration values obtained with the TrayCell are comparable to those obtained with standard 10mm path length cuvettes.

Electroporation of Smooth Muscle Cells Using the Gene Pulser MXcell Electroporation System
06 May 2010: In this application note, Bio-Rad optimizes experimental conditions for transfection of several different smooth muscle cell (SMC) types using the Gene Pulser MXcell electroporation system. Electroporation parameters were optimized based on SMC viability and transfection efficiency. Different SMC types showed differential responses to varying voltage and capacitance. The system allows multiple cell types to be simultaneously tested in one single experiment.
